NonProfit
Times Picks
SFA Web Site
for Top Six List of "Hottest Sites"
The Nonprofit Times selected the Stuttering Foundation's Web site
as one of its top six picks for this year's hottest sites.
The newspaper examined 200 Web sites in making their top choices,
notes the article, which ran in the September 15, 2003 issue.
"A site's torridity was judged on how its message was conveyed
with importance placed on availability of materials, rotating content,
ease of navigation and unique features," wrote Craig Causer.
"There are plenty of worthy Web sites, but those chosen were able
to best convey the mission and tone of their organizations through a
computer screen and a couple of speakers.
"They're hot. They're cool. They educate and entertain. And
they'll have you clicking back for more," Causer concluded.
The Foundation first launched its Web site in 1998. One of the
features noted by the NP Times in their selection process is the
number of free materials available.
"As 1998 went by we saw more and more requests for information
coming over the Web and email," wrote Jane Fraser in her 1998
report to the Board of Directors. At that time, the site averaged
about 1000 hits per month.
Since that time, content and traffic on the Web site have grown
dramatically, helping the Foundation make information available in the
most accessible, least expensive way.
This past October, the Web site had 543,725 hits with 37,845 on
October 22 alone-a day the Foundation appeared in Annie's Mailbox, the
nationally syndicated advice column. Typically, the site receives
about 20,000 hits per day.
This year the SFA also launched a Spanish site,
www.tartamudez.org,
which received 12,000 hits in October.
